Not two weeks after I say that the Fiesta has not needed a mechanical warranty item, it breaks. Oh well, I’m surprised the blend door lasted this long.

Blend door? I’m confused.

Edit: never mind, I googled it.

The one on my impreza never worked right, I just think Subaru didn’t want to remove the dash to replace it. I hope the surgery is not as invasive on the Fist.

That’s part of the HVAC system. So that you get cold when you want it and hot when you want it. When that goes bad, your HVAC is pretty useless.

It’s the blend door actuator, and it controls the position of the vents. It always fails in Fiestas, and when it does, you get an incredibly annoying knocking sound from the dash.

It’s under warranty, so I shouldn’t have to worry about it.

last year I took my C5 vette apart. Previous owner said the blend door didn’t work. Quick google search indicated the actuator may have died. Bought actuator. Dug in....

Hind sight, should have just took the blend door out completely. Now I have to take the dashboard apart again. I don’t need to control where the air blows as long as it blows and doesn’t stop until i turn the blower off.

I wish one of those executives from Ford/GM/etc drive some of these shit boxes. See what they are like.

Sure. As an executive, you can just drop the car off at the service bay and pick it up little later in afternoon brand spanking new... but us... we have to eat a lot of shit...

Even under warranty, it’s nice if they can do it without removing everything. Less stuff to remove and reinstall means fewer clips to break, fewer things that don’t fit back quite right, and so forth. Sure if it is rattling afterwards you should be able to make them fix it again, but better to just have things be right the first time.

Making a good blend door actuator is hard. Maybe they need a few more decades of practice.

Yeeeeeeep. I remember the blend door well. I was out of warranty so I was preparing to do it the hard way when it stopped/stripped completely just long enough to trade it in.

This broke in my old ranger twice. Second time I just drilled a hole in the door and ran a coat hanger thru it. Push for cold pull for heat.

Now that’s more like it! I prefer the classic manual controls anyway.

Mine was broken the day I bought it. I found it under the dash, but damn its going to be a bitch to get to.

I’m at 35,500, so hopefully I don’t have to do it. Just doing the cabin air filter is a nightmare.

Ford still hasn’t figured out how to make blend door actuators last? They’ve been failing regularly in crown vics for 20 years!

Huh, 67k miles of violently rough Vermont roads, and though I’ve used my extended warranty for suspension repair, ecu replacement, and side-skirt cracking the blend door still works fine.

I was the last FiST owner in my group of FiST owners to have it go :(. South Carolina roads are from the third world though.

It controls the direction of the interior air flow.
